Yates & Co. - History The Yates/Samuel family was one of the two wealthiest and most influential in the Liverpool Jewish community from the late 18th century to the 20th century. It was also probably the largest. Ellis Samuel Yates (1805-1849) was in business by 1825 and seems to have continued until at least the middle of the century, making watches of good quality with some unusual and enterprising features. The manufacturing business premises were located in Lord Street. He died in June 1849 at the early age of 45.
