Gorgeous antique Longines 925 sterling silver pocket watch made circa 1880 and in outstanding condition. This is a really ancient model, one of the first ones produced by the renowned Swiss watchmaking brand. The watch works really fine. It is a very rare mechanism with horizontal configuration which includes a peculiar time-setting system. In order to set the time, the user must lift the glass cap and press a small lever located at the crown, just by the V numeral. The watch casing is made of 925 sterling silver and bears hallmarks in different parts that testify for its ancient age, origin and quality. It was made by the Keystone Watch Case Co. from Philadelphia, USA, founded in 1904 from the alliance of several watchmakers. The watchs dial is white, with black Roman numerals and the printed LONGINES brand name. It also bears the minutes in Arab numerals. It mounts black Louis-XVI hands and a secondary golden-metal straight hand. The rear cap bears a guilloche decoration with central non-engraved shield. If we lift this cap inside will see the hallmarks, the manufacturing companys name (KEYSTONE) and the word STERLING for 925 silver. Under the inscriptions lays the engraved serial number, 4564665. The 925 mark is also engraved in the piece that connects the crown with the casing. The dustcap is even and bears no decoration; its inner side is marked with different inscriptions and again the hallmarks. Last but not least, we can see the LONGINES brand name engraved in the watchs movement. Its magnificent design and high quality turn this antique Longines 925 sterling silver pocket watch into an exclusive piece, worthy to belong to the best collector of old-time watches. Measurements: Width: 54 mm.Longines History Longines is a watch manufacturing company that started out in the half of the 19th century, in a small workshop founded by Auguste Agassiz in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. Agassizs nephew, Ernest Francillon, developed the business and chose the Longines brand name and the logo depicting a winged hourglass. This logo is the oldest current trade mark of the World Intellectual Property Organization. In 1867 Longines made their first movement and in 1868 they launched a movement that could be winded up by turning the watchs crown, so there was no need of a key. The firm has been official timekeeper in fourteen Olympic Games and in many sport events. Today Longines is part of the Swiss Swatch group.
