Antique Zenith solid-silver pocket watch made in Switzerland circa 1900 to be exported to the German market. The watch is in very good condition and works really fine, bearing hallmarks in all its parts too. The white dial has black Arab numerals and golden-metal Louis XV hands. The dial is in good condition and shows no remarkable signs of wear, hairlines or flaws. On the other hand, the rear cap is adorned with the classic guilloche decoration and a central hand-engraved shield with no inscriptions inside. Under the rear cap, the dustcap is decorated with four medals and the inscription MEDAILE DOR GENEVE 1896. We can also see an inscription with information about the movement, a typical feature in quality watches from that period. Inside the rear cap and the dustcap we find the hallmarks which identify Swiss and German silver pieces, the silver proportion (0,800) and the serial number 382944. The rear cap also bears the engraved ZENITH mark. Last but not least, the movement bears an engraved mark with the Swiss cross and the number 17353. This exclusive antique Zenith solid-silver pocket watch is a real collectors piece, a great example of the best turn-of-the-century Swiss watchmaking. The brand name Zenith corresponds to the highest point reached in the sky by a celestial sphere; hence its logo, a star in a night sky. The company started out in the mid-19th century. In 1863 Georges Favre Jacot opened a watchmaking workshop in Le Locle, Switzerland (a city where some of the most famous Swiss watches are made). The young entrepreneur was only 22 years old, but in 10 years he owned a business which employed more than 100 workers. In the 1920s the factory had already manufactured more than two million exclusive watches which were sold all over the world. Though it was a renowned brand then, it was in 1969 when the company got its first great success with the launching of The first, a chronograph movement with automatic charge. Though being more than 50 years old, today it is still the most accurate and precise serial chronograph in the world. Zenith is also a manufacture dhorlogerie; this means that Zenith watches only mount movements developed by the company. Thorough its history, they have got more than 300 patents and have been awarded more than 2.300 chronometry awards.
