Antique Waltham Pocket Watch Model 1888. Solid 14K Gold. USA, 1889

Fine antique Waltham pocket watch model 1888, made of 14K gold in the USA as a special order for the Spanish market. The watch is in amazing condition and working order, keeping all its original component parts. It mounts a 14K rose gold four-leaf case with and hand-engraved decoration, fluted gold ball pendant and round bow placed at the three position (savonette) opposite the case hinge. The front and rear caps are adorned with the same engraved motif: a garden landscape that allows one to peek through a central scalloped aperture with a tied bow at the base, and can see a lake with sailboat and mountain range in the distance. The inside of the cover carries case number 48270 and the 14k gold mark, as well as the makers name, WALTHAM. The bezel is also decorated with hand-engraved motifs, creating a surrounding effect full of beauty and charm. Under the rear cap we can see a polished gold cuvette with two concentric knurled rings towards the periphery. The front cap protects a gorgeous white enamel dial with golden, yellow, red and green decoration. It bears Arabic numerals and the manufacturers signature, American Waltham, in a fine cursive lettering. The dial has a secondary hand and mounts gilt skeletonized Louis-XV-style hands. Though we can actually see a few tight hairlines in the dial, it does remain in great condition. Under the gold cuvette we find the fine movement, made especially for the Spanish marketplace using the Riverside, model 1888, as the basis for this item. The serial number is 3978029 and indicates year of manufacture as 1889, made in a small run of 100 such movements, each configured for a hunter case. It is made with 15 jewels, some in screw setting; pendant wound and ever set, bimetallic balance wheel, Breguet hairspring and the Fogg tadpole patented regulator. The movement is adjusted for position and temperature, and is properly signed and numbered by Waltham.
