Antique Verge-Fusee Quarter Repeater Pocket Watch. Pr. Michaud. Paris, Ca. 1760

Antique verge-fusee quarter repeater pocket watch made by Pierre Michaud in Paris, circa 1760. It has silver casing, is in fine working order and has a fine repeating sound on bell. The bell has an old repair. Pierre Michaud, the watchmaker, worked in Paris between 1755 and 1771, so we are looking at a really ancient piece signed by a renowned artisan. The watch’s dial is made of white porcelain, with stylized black Arab numerals and cobalt-blue metal Breguet hands. They do show some signs of the trace of time which talk about the watch’s pass, but these do not interfere in its charm or good performance. Inside, the beautiful and complex movement is signed by hand by Pr. Michaud, Paris and bears the engraved serial number 6249.

More than 250 years old and with an undeniable charm, this antique verge-fusee quarter-repeating pocket watch by Pierre Michaud is worthy of a watchmaking museum.
