Important Junghans Pendulum Clock, ca. 1880-1890. Decorative wooden case with Baroque architectural features divided into two main registers, flanked by columns and an undulating upper cornice. This particular clock has the particularity of playing with wood of two colors, which makes it a very decorative piece. The lateral black Solomonic columns clearly connect with the upper pinnacles and enhance the decoration of this wonderful piece. The upper cornice, framed by two lateral pinnacles and one upper one, is decorated in the central part by a beautiful carving of a harp between columns, and some longitudinal openings, with small inverted pinnacles inside, very original. Simple white dial with Roman numerals enameled in black, and pike hands. The enamel is in perfect state of preservation, spotless, without any hair, practically like new. The precious pendulum of rods consists of an original lens decorated with the figure of Neptune crossing the waters on a magical bird. The 8-day movement has an hour and half-hour chime. Both the dial and machinery are signed with the eight-pointed star and the spelling of the brand: JUNGHANS, brand used from 1880. It is in perfect condition, both aesthetically and functionally. The mechanism has been revised and is practically like new, perfect for marking the hours from the first minute. The first domestic clocks were wall clocks moved with weights, which generally lasted 30 hours, until the innovation of the spring mechanism was developed. Wood, ceramics and different metals were used to make the cases, and the mechanisms also varied considerably. Decorations were developed according to the time in which they were made, being very important the external appearance of the watches in the most important manufacturing countries; France and England. German Junghans began its journey in the manufacture of watches in 1860, establishing the factory in the Black Forest region of Germany. It had great success in the American market, which would soon make the small factory one of the most prosperous in a very short time. The family-owned company Gebrüder Junghans was first engaged in making watch accessories, but within a few years it was already making complete watches. They were familiar with American watchmaking, which they would successfully apply to increasingly complete machinery. The first registered Junghans trademark in 1877 was an eagle with wings spread out above a folded flag. Later, in 1882, this changed to a star with two eagles and a flag; in 1888, it was the familiar J in an 8-pointed star, and after 1890 the J in a 5-pointed star. Although the brand started out producing quality wall clocks, it would progressively advance in terms of technology by developing wristwatches that have survived to the present day. Original and genuine Junghans watch! Measurements: 97 x 43 cm.
