Striking wall clock with hand-carved wooden box, fully restored and in perfect working order. The clock was made in Germany in 1900 and works wonderfully: the movement has been carefully dismantled and overhauled, and it currently chimes the hours and the halves with total precision. The box, face and rest of the component parts have been restored so today the clock looks as beautiful as it can be appreciated in the images. The box is made of oak wood and boasts a lovely hand-carved and turned decoration, with stylized side columns and romantic-style motives (flowers, volutes) that adorn the different parts. The wood has been restored with a French-polish finish that guarantees its good maintenance and provides the clock with a great warm gloss. The clocks face is also quite attractive: it is made of brass, with white background and black Arab numbers. It is embellished with a gorgeous circular central brass piece, decorated with an embossed butterfly. The pendulum bob is also made of brass and bears an art-nouveau-style decoration. The clocks movement bears the engraved mark of Junghans, a prestigious clockmaker company: an eight-pointed star with the word JUNGHANS and a capital J inside. For its lovely design and magnificent working order, this antique wall clock will shine in the most special house. Measurements: Width: 13.7 in / 35 cm. Height: 45.2 in / 115 cm.History of Junghans On 15 April 1861 Erhard Junghans created the company "Junghans und Tobler" together with his brother-in-law Jakob Zeller-Tobler in Schramberg. The company began to produce wristwatches in 1927. Beginning in the 1950s, the Bauhaus designer Max Bill created clocks and watches for Junghans and the relationship lasted many years. A remarkable example of his work is a wall clock he designed in 1956/57 that is in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art (New York). In 1962 Bill also created mechanical wristwatches for Junghans impressive timepieces, not only for their aesthetic design, but also their precision. In the late 1980s, Junghans introduced the first radio-controlled table clock on the world market. In 1990 the first radio-controlled wristwatch, called the MEGA 1, followed. In 1995 Junghans presented a solar powered watch with ceramic housing. Together with the Japanese clock maker Seiko, Junghans developed a globally oriented wristwatch that automatically sets the local time in respective time zones.
