Smart necklace cross made of hand-engraved sterling silver. This attractive piece comes from Frances and was made in the 19th century, being a beautiful religious antique. The cross is designed to be hung from a chain over the chest. This kind of pieces is usually worn by members of the clerical state. The cross is made of solid silver and has two hallmarks: one of them is in the ring and the other is clearly stamped at the base, in the piece where Jesus Christs feet rest. The cross is 9 centimeters high and boasts a beautifully balanced design. It is a complicatedly decorated cross: the planks ends are embellished with curved volutes and medieval-inspired floral motives. The figure of Jesus Christ is very harmonious and is finely performed, with balanced volumes and high realism. The Redeemer raises his eyes up to heaven in a mute prayer to God. The lining that covers his waist is nicely carved with realistic folds, while the silver body shows the shape of the muscles under the skin.Behind Jesus Christs head there is an engraved circle with a Greek cross inside, a feature symbolizing the figures divinity. At the point where the stipes and the patibulum (the two pieces that make up a cross) join, we can see two medieval-style details that emerge from the corners and provide the cross with a nice decorative touch. This jewel is designed to be hung from a necklace, so it has an engraved silver ring with a hallmark in it. Under Jesus Christs feet, the piece where they rest has another hallmark and the world DEPOSE clearly engraved in the silver. This wonderful sterling silver cross is also a magnificent religious antique, beautifully made and perfect to complete a good collection.Measurements: Width: 5 cm/1.9 in.
