Beautiful French chalice completely made of gold-plated silver in the 19th century. The chalice has hallmarks in its base and cup which certify that it is entirely made of quality solid silver. The piece keeps its original golden tone both outside and inside the cup, and the hand-engraved decoration that embellishes it is delicate and elegant. The cup sits on a series of leaves that emerge from the stem simulating the calyx of a flower. The leaves surround and support delicately the cup and reach the middle of its height. This leave-shaped motive is also reproduced in the chalices base, a lobed part which has been hand-engraved with this vegetal motive and a small Greek cross in one of its lobes. On the other hand, the node has a different decoration; it is more deeply engraved and geometrical in style, made up of a series of diamond-shaped compartments with symmetrical four-petal flowers inside each one. Both the cup and the base have hallmarks which certify the quality of the silver and tell us about its origin. The base has two hallmarks, one of which bears and inscription in capital letters: CHEVRON. Outside the cup, just by its edge we can see another hallmark. This French chalice is a wonderful piece. Any lover of religious art will understand that it is a real find.Measurements: Width: 143 mm. Height: 250 mm.
