Antique silver baroque chalice made in Paris, France in 1838, in very good condition and with a silver paten from the same period. We are looking at an amazing piece of antique silversmith, entirely covered of hand-engraved and embossed motifs depicting religious images and liturgical symbols. The circular foot has three medals with representations of the Theological Virtues (Faith, Hope and Charity), separated by bunches of grapes in the vine, wheat stalks and a landscape with the Cross in the Calvary which marks the front side of the chalice. The stem has a big node with engraved vines and wheat stalks, accompanied by a group of reeds which symbolize the People of God. At the top, the openwork subcup is adorned with three profiles of the members of the Sacred Family: Jesus, Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph, separated by the same symbols of the node. The cup is made of gilt silver, and just like the foot it has the hallmarks which identify silver items made between 1818 and 1838, together with the profile of Minerva which started being used in 1838. The paten is made of gilt silver; it has hallmarks too and is adorned with a simple symmetrical motif. It has some slight scratches at the surface which can be easily removed with a professional polish. This gorgeous antique silver baroque chalice will shine during the celebration of Eucharist, but also as part of a good collection. Dimensions: Chalice: Foots Width: 5.91 in / 15 cm.
