Gothic Silver Ciborium, S XVI

We are facing a really impressive piece, a magnificent gothic ciborium, made entirely by hand, for liturgical use and made of carved solid silver with 16th Century Barcelona Hallmarks. It is preserved in all its magnificent beauty. Over it, during the 19th century a series of neo gothic elements were added to suit it to the taste of the times, something that was done at the time, that however, maintain the attractiveness and personality of the piece.This original piece of the XVI century is thick and heavy, almost a kilo, and is formed by the base, stem and cup. In the nineteenth century was added the cross of the cap and possibly the small pinnacles of the base. The additions of the nineteenth century, in neo-Gothic style, fit perfectly to the original design of the piece, of purely medieval style. This uniqueness makes this ciborium an article unparalleled, full of personality and very decorative. The base of the ciborium is wide and has a lobed shape, with stylized symbols engraved in silver. If we turn it on, the lower side, is engraved the hallmark of Barcelona during the XVI century, attesting to the quality of silver and its origin. Also, on the foot we find the same hallmarks. Over the central stem node appear four enameled medallions in blue and green and representing the four evangelists. The enamel is generally well preserved but in some places has disappeared. The cup is a large cylindrical body, with a Latin inscription engraved by hand in Gothic lettering. On it, the spectacular solid silver lid shows a complicated design profusely decorated with patterns in relief. The delicate silver crucifix that crowns the assembly and most probably from the 19th century, can be removed. This awesome silver ciborium is full of history, boasting an uncommon beauty and an impressive ancient age. Measurements: Width: 6.6 in / 17 cm. Height: 13.3 in / 34 cm. Weight: 970 g.
