Magnificent Solid Silver Chalice with Precious Stones. France, XIX Century

Stunning antique chalice with engraved paten made of sterling silver with hallmarks. This beautiful religious set comes from France where it was made in the 19th century. The chalice is in excellent condition and boasts a gorgeous engraved decoration, balanced and classy. It is a medieval-style decoration that follows the neo-Gothic style that became so popular in those days. The engraved motives are accompanied by a series of precious stones set in the silver authentic emerald and rubies, with an astonishing beauty and bright color. The combination of the noble metal and the precious stones makes up a state-of-art piece, very antique and really exceptional. The chalices base is lobed and is decorated with a simple net background motive. Each lobe has an engraved cross with a precious stone in the center. There are a total of six stones: three emeralds and three rubies alternating. The base narrows to join a mast with two nodes. The low node, smaller in size, is engraved with wavy shapes; the bigger top node bears an emerald, a sapphire and two rubies that match the decoration of the base. Over the node, the cups base bears an engraved decoration depicting fig plants and bunches of grapes, accompanied by two big vegetal-inspired designs. It is also embellished with precious stones, a lovely combination of red rubies and blue sapphires. The paten is quite simple, also made of sterling silver and with its corresponding hallmarks. It is decorated with a lovely hand-engraved motive depicting the Lamb of God into a six-pointed star. Impressive and antique, this stunning chalice is a real treasure worthy of a museum of sacred art or in the hands of a priest to reinstate and consecrate it for the Church.
