This gorgeous piece is a sterling-silver lidded paten, an exceptional article in really good condition. The paten was made in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and is a beautiful and delicate jewel. The paten bears hallmarks in all its parts.The silver lid is connected to the paten by a well-preserved hinge. These objects were used to carry the consecrated host in the proper way. They were used in specific circumstances such as last rites for dying people or priests short trips (as they are obliged to celebrate mass and receive communion).
