Gorgeous chalice and paten set made completely of first-quality sterling silver. Both pieces boast a sober and modern design and were made in France in the first quarter of the 20th century. The chalice shows a neo-gothic style and is a medieval-inspired piece with a delicate purity of lines. Both articles bear their corresponding hallmarks and are decorated with hand-engraved motives. The chalice has an ample circular base, decorated only with a fringe that surrounds the piece. The fringe contains the following Latin inscription: HOC EST ENIM CALIX SANGUINIS MEI (This is the Chalice of My Blood), a sentence that is part of the Eucharistic liturgy. If we turn the chalice upside down, at the base we will find the engraved silversmiths name: ALBERT SCHWARTZ PARIS, together with two hallmarks. There is also a hand-engraved dedicatory that reads FRANÇOIS SEITE PRETRE. The stem that emerges from the base is geometrical in shape and has a node of the same style at the top.The cup is also quite simple: the only decoration it shows is an engraved fringe near the edge. The fringe is composed of delicate fig leaves and grape bunches, symbols of the wine used at the Eucharist. The paten is also a lovely piece that matches perfectly the stylish chalice. It is adorned with a stylized engraved motive depicting wheat stalks inside a Greek crosss. The inscription HOC EST CORPUS MEUM (This is My Body) surrounds the motive. The set comes in its fine original case, made of solid oak wood and with a label indicating the makers addres.Measurements: Chalice: Width: 5.5 in / 14 cm. Height: 6.8 in / 17.5 cm. Weight: 515 g.
