Set of two antique sterling-silver cruets with almost 200 years, made in France between 1819 and 1838. The cruets are for liturgical use and look great. They are decorated with hand-engraved motives and remain in good condition. The cruets stand on a silver tray with two bulges designed to fit them on top. The three pieces bear hallmarks. One of the cruets is slightly inclined but does not affect its stability, but this detail does not diminish the beauty and quality of the whole set. Please, take a look to the many pictures after the description. The tray where the cruets stand on is oval in shape and is decorated with two engraved bunches of grapes. It also shows the word Jeanidet (probably a name) engraved in elegant cursive lettering. The tray bears the mentioned early 19th century hallmarks: we can see marks that depict parts of insects and others containing female profiles and a bearded man as well as the silversmith hallmark: E-D . The cruets also bear their corresponding early 19th century hallmarks. The design of the silver cruets is fine and balanced. They are decorated with classic-inspired motives and naturalist elements. One of them is embellished with engravings depicting bunches of grapes (symbolizing the Eucharistic wine; this cruet should contain the wine) and reeds (a classic Christian symbol; this cruet would contain water). Both are equipped with hinged lids that can be lifted to pour the content. This antique cruet set on silver tray is a very special piece that will shine on an ancient wooden sideboard or in a good collection of religious art. Measurements (Whole Set): Width: 9.4 in / 24 cm. Height: 6.6 in / 17 cm.
