Virgin of El Rocío Picture

This lovely hand-embossed and silver-plated copper picture is a charming item, a typical work of the 70s performed with great attention to detain. The picture depicts the Virgin of the Rocío (Virgin of the Dew), an iconic and medieval-inspired image of one of the most renowned and revered Spanish Patron Saints. It has been fully restored in order to show off the magnificent condition that we can see in the photographs. The picture has been framed with a sober solid golden-brown wooden molding. The combination of the natural matt wood with the shiny silver-plated metal creates an appealing and stylish item. At the images feet we find a hand-engraved inscription with the Patron Saints name: Ntra. Sra. del Rocío Patrona de Almonte. The Virgin of the Rocío (Dew), also known under other names such as the White Dove or the Queen of the Marshes, is a Marian invocation revered in the Ermita del Rocío located in Almonte, Huelva (Spain). The pilgrimage that takes place in her honor is one of the most important ones in Spain, worldwide known and that every year brings together more than one million people. The picture that we can see in the photographs draws our attention for its delicate and beautiful making, perfect for such a revered image. The Virgin is portrayed in the center of the picture with the Holy Child in her arms. The image is hieratic and frontal, clearly inspired in Romanic images. The cloak that covers the Virgin head to toes boasts a subtle embossed decoration of flowers and volutes. The pictures borders are decorated with a fine fringe composed of rectangles and squares containing Pompeian-style decorative motives. Framing the Virgin we can also see some delicate and charming putti that hide behind the clouds. At the top of the picture and crowning the image there is a dove that symbolizes the Holy Ghost.
