This beautiful French chalice joins its great value as an antique to the quality of the material it is completely made of: hand-engraved solid silver with gilded details. It is an article which dates from the 19th century, and it bears various hallmarks which testify for the quality and ancient age. The hallmarks belong to Faviers atelier, a silversmith from Lyon (France) whose atelier made lots of valuable pieces in those times. This chalice is Neo-gothic in style, with medieval details which provide it with a sober elegance. It is a perfectly preserved chalice whose beauty is highly remarkable. The golden details keep their original shine and look, while the silver is clean and polished, showing a nice shine which has in no way been altered by the trace of time. The piece is completely made of silver, including the base, which in other cases is usually made of less valuable metals. The cup is connected to the stem by a delicate set of engravings in the shape of wheat stalks, symmetrical and lineal. The node is adorned with stylized floral engravings mixed with purely decorative abstract motives, in a medieval style. The chalice bears contrasts in every part, which indicates the authenticity and value of this item. The base is also very remarkable because of the three medallions which enhance it. They are oval with pointed arcs in the edges, and show delicate engravings which depict the figures of the Holy Family: Virgin Mary, Jesus Christ (the Sacred Heart) and Saint Joseph, who is holding a crozier with lilies at the top edge. This element symbolizes carpentry, chastity and the fact that God chose him to be Marys husband. This chalice is a good example of sacred art, which will give off all its beauty and style in any collection or room. Measurements: 133 cm width (base) x 220 mm height.
