Amazing antique Virgin of the Pillar from Zaragoza, Spain made in the 19th century. This is a truly original piece, in very good condition and with hallmarks that testify for their origin and quality. The figure depicts the Virgin in the classical way, with Child Jesus in her arms and an ample triangular piece underneath which symbolizes a wide skirt. The Virgin is sitting on the pillar which gives her its name; the pillar is standing on a square-shaped solid-wooden piece covered by silver plates. The whole sculpture is mounted on a wooden structure which provides it with sturdiness and stability. The top part, depicting the Virgin and the Child, is simple and beautiful with soft lines and deep reliefs. The bottom triangular-shaped part is created with molded silver strips which make up a symmetrical flowery motif. The cylindrical pillar is also covered by silver filigrees which create the same configuration. The base is covered of lean silver plates; the covering bears three hallmarks in very good condition. We can see the silversmiths mark, J. TABONGI; a hallmark with a rampant lion and a mark with an image of a cup and the letters AG. The elegant figure and the beauty of this antique silver Virgin of the Pillar turn it into a superb piece, worthy to be exhibited in an honor place. Dimensions: Width: 2.56 in / 6.5 cm. Height: 8.27 in / 21.5 cm. Weight: 156 g (with wooden base and structure).
