Antique Gilt Solid-Silver Paten. France, 19th Century

Beautiful antique gold-plated solid-silver paten made in France in the 19th century and in good condition. This fine-looking piece is decorated with a lovely hand-engraved IHS monogram. The monogram bears delicate shadows, volutes and slim inner lines which make up a balanced and subtle design. The central motif is surrounded by a circular border, simple and elegant. Close to the patens edge we can see two hallmarks that testify for the silvers origin, age and quality. One of them shows a profile of Minerva goddess; it is usually found in antique French silver pieces. The other is the silversmiths mark and contains the initials PRP. The hallmarks are greatly preserved and remain perfectly recognizable. For its ancient age, delicate decoration and good condition, this antique gold-plated solid-silver paten will shine in any collection or accompanying a superb chalice.
