Gorgeous antique gold-plated silver monstrance from Paris, France made circa 1820. This amazing piece is nearly 200 years old and has survived to our days in striking condition. The monstrance is complete and comes with its lunette, a delicate crystal piece which is usually missing. The monstrances base is square in shape and stands on four small legs. It is decorated with embossed images of the Lamb of God, the Eye of Providence, bunches of grapes and wheat stalks. The node is adorned with the same embossed bunches of grapes and wheat stalks, flanked by two cherubs. The top part or sun is surely the most spectacular one of all the monstrance. It has a central glass compartment which contains the lunette; this one is a circular silver and glass piece designed to preserve the consecrated Host. The top of the monstrance is shaped as a sunburst, which symbolized Jesus as the Light of the World. Between the sunrays and the lunette we can see some embossed motifs, similar to the ones stated before. The whole piece is crowned by an elegant stylized cross and bears hallmarks in all its parts, even the lunette. Among them, we can identify the one of Paris-made silver pieces. This gorgeous antique gold-plated silver monstrance is an impressive item, worthy of inclusion in the treasure of any church or cathedral. Dimensions: Bases Width: 6.7 in / 17 cm.
