Striking antique chalice and paten set, made in France in the late 19th century and finely preserved. The chalices decoration is clearly inspired in medieval ornamentation, really attractive and full of charm. This piece bears hallmarks at the foot and the cup, perfectly visible and testifying for its quality and ancient age. The foot is lobed in shape and is adorned with hand-engraved and embossed motifs. All its sections contain stylized and symmetrical images of reeds. The only exception is the front one, decorated with a cross. The silver surface shows a delicate tiny dotted pattern which provides the shiny surface with depth and interest. The foot is conical in shape and gets narrower as it reaches the stem; it bears a fine decoration depicting lance-shaped leaves. The stem has two nodes, a main one and a secondary one, both finely decorated too. The openwork subcup holds a fine lean gilded-silver cup; it is composed of the same motifs of reeds as the foot. The chalice comes with a gilded-silver paten with hallmarks, adorned with a hand-engraved acronym of Christ (IHS). As elegant as original of the time, this antique solid-silver chalice and paten set will be the best present for a priest or a lover of sacred silver pieces.
