Superb French gilt-silver chalice and paten set, made in Paris between 1818 and 1838. 100% silver. The paten is from a later period, from the end of the 19th century. The chalice shows a really elegant design, stylized and sober. The amazing condition of the gilded finish is quite remarkable: warm and even, its enhances the embossed motifs and the design. The circular foot is adorned with a series of hand-engraved motifs depicting Christian symbols and images: the radiant Cross, the reeds, the wheat stalks and the bunches of grapes. The foot also bears the French silver hallmark and the silversmiths mark, clearly marked on the metal surface. The stem has a main node with a simple decoration of leaves and scrolls, and a secondary node on top of the main one. The cup which crowns the chalice bears no decoration at all and boasts a stylized design. Close to the cups edge we find the same hallmarks, which testify for the pieces quality and ancient age. The paten which comes with the chalice bears hallmarks close to the edge these marks testify for the pieces ancient age and origin. At the center we can see the acronym of Jesus Christs name, IHS, with a radiant Latin cross crowning the I letter and the Sacred Heart below. As beautiful as antique, this wonderful French gilt-silver chalice and paten set will stand out in a good collection or during the celebration of Eucharist.
