Antique gilt silver chalice with storing case, made in France circa 1900 and with silver paten. This chalice is a really beautiful piece which combines a delicate gilt finish covering all its surface and three lean silver medallions at the foot. It bears hallmarks in all its parts, corresponding to the antique French silverware and to the silversmith who made the piece. The foot is conical in shape and is adorned with a band containing embossed grapevines, a fine detail. Over the band we can see three circular silver pieces, three medallions with profiles of the members of the Sacred Family. They are portraits of Jesus, Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph, wonderfully made and of an impressive beauty. The three medallions are signed with the initials B. N. Over the foot, the main node is decorated with schematic symmetrical wheat stalks. The grapevines at the foot depict the Eucharist Wine, while the stalks are a symbol of the Bread. The sub-cup combines both symbols and uses them to create an elegant, sober and balanced decoration. The paten which comes with the chalice is adorned with an engraved Crismon (the Greek acronym of the name of Jesus Christ) framed by a fine simple circular border. Close to the edge we find the hallmark of antique French silverware. The whole set can be stored and carried in its original case, covered inside in red velvet and in fine condition. Any collector of religious silverware and exclusive pieces will appreciate this antique gilt silver chalice with storing case, a beautiful and really interesting item.
