Superb neo-gothic silver gilt silver chalice with enamels, coming from France and made circa 1900. The first thing that draws our attention in this piece is its spectacular decoration and its chromatic richness. The gilt silver is covered with handmade enamels combined with semiprecious stones (carved aquamarines and garnets) at the node. The design shows a clear medieval style, so usual in pieces made between the 19th and 20th centuries. The chalice bears hallmarks in all its parts and is profusely engraved by hand with schematic vegetal motifs. The foot is lobed in shape and is adorned with three enameled images of the Crucifixion, Saint Peter and another one. Between them there are three more enamels depicting symmetrical flowers in different colors. They are all wonderfully preserved. The node at the stem is embellished with the carved stones stated before. We can see six stones, all of them original and in perfect condition. Over the node, the openwork sub-cup bears enameled medallions with portraits of the members of the Sacred Family: Jesus Christ blessing the World, Saint Joseph and Virgin Mary. The chalice comes with a gilt silver paten with an engraved Greek cross and hallmarks. As beautiful as antique, this superb neo-gothic gilt silver chalice with enamels will shine during the celebration of Eucharist or as part of a collection of religious silverware.
