Sober 100% silver ciborium, made in France circa 1900 and in great condition. This piece stands out for its elegant and simple design, adorned with hand-engraved neo-gothic-style motifs. The motifs are symmetrical and schematic, disposed in decorative borders and panoplies which provide the ciborium with a balanced and serene beauty. At the decorated parts, the motifs are gilt but the backgrounds are not. The circular foot bears an engraved border composed of arches, shamrocks and fleur-de-lis it is conical in shape, and the point where it connects the node is decorated with leave-shaped forms. The node bears an engraved Latin inscription: ECCE PANIS ANGELORUM (Behold the Bread of Angels). The cup and the lid are adorned with the same neo-gothic motifs, symmetrical and discreet; the lid is crowned by the classic Latin cross that acts as a handle. All the parts of this ciborium bear the French silver hallmarks and the silversmiths mark with the initials. PB.
