Antique silver ciborium 100% silver, made in France in the 19th century and in good condition. The ciborium combines gilt and non-gilt silver areas; the gilt finish is slightly worn at the center (the node), the most touched part. Though, the quality of the antique silver it is made of, its ancient age and its fine design turn it into a very special item. The foot is lobed and is composed of six sections, all equally decorated. The sections are separated by nerves depicting schematic wheat stalks, symbols of the Eucharistic Bread. The border is adorned with a classic engraved motif. The stem has two nodes, the main and bigger one being located at the top. It is embellished with simple vegetal motifs depicting wheat stalks and bunches of grapes. These symbols are also part of the sub-cup which holds the non-decorated cup. The lid which crowns the piece bears a fine tracery border and is profusely adorned with embossed and engraved elements. All the parts of this ciborium bear the French silver hallmarks and the silversmiths mar, with the initials JC. Beautiful and antique, this gilt-silver ciborium 100% silver is a silversmiths work of art which will shine on any altar. Dimensions: Foots Width: 5.7 in / 14.5 cm. Cups Width: 4.33 in / 11 cm.
