Antique gilt silver chalice with paten, both 100% solid silver and made in France in the 19th century. The chalice is presented in its original period case and is well preserved, although there is a lack in the vegetal motifs that make up the overcup. The paten, on the other hand, shows some signs of wear to the silver gilding. The set can be used without problems for the celebration of the Eucharist; if desired, it can be completely restored to recover the integrity and beauty of the article. For more information, please contact us.The chalice has a lobed foot; each section is adorned with a schematic vegetal motif depicting vines and wheat stalks. The front section includes a Greek cross. The node is decorated with gothic-style floral motifs, while the subcup shows the same decoration as the foot in latticework. The paten bears a gorgeous engraved cross with the crown of thorns, together with the acronym of Jesus Christs name (IHS). Both pieces have the French silver hallmark and the silversmiths mark; at the chalice we can read clearly the name FAVIER, one of the most prestigious silversmiths of France in the 19th century. Any lover of antique religious silverwork will recognize the beauty and value of this antique gilt-silver chalice and paten set, 100% silver. Dimensions: Chalice: Foots Width: 6.1 in / 15.5 cm.
