Antique Solid-Silver, Ruby and Pearls Chalice. Beautiful Paten. France, 1903

Amazing solid-silver chalice and beautiful paten set with a ruby and pearls, made in France in 1903 and in excellent condition. Both the chalice and the paten are made of 100% silver and bear hallmarks which testify for its origin, ancient age and quality. Differently from other similar sets, in this occasion both pieces are adorned with hand-engraved Latin inscriptions in beautiful gilt gothic lettering. The chalices foot is circular and bears the inscription Calicem salutaris accipiam et nomen Domini invocabo (I receive the Chalice of God and call upon the Name of My Lord) and an embedded ruby framed by pearls which depicts Christs Blood. The node at the stem is circular and is divided in section which combine gilt and non-gilt silver. The cup bears the inscription Hic est Enim Calix Sanguinis Mei (This is the Chalice of My Blood), the words pronounced by Jesus Christ during the Last Supper and repeated by the priest during the Consecration. If we turn the chalice upside down, inside the foot we will discover the following dedication in French: La seule chose que je vous demande, cest que vous cous souveniez de moi à lautrel du Seigneur (Ste. Monique) 1er Mars 1903 - The only thing I as for is to be remembered in the Altar of the Lord (Saint Monique), March 1st 1903.The beautiful matching paten is engraved with the image of the Lamb of God surrounded by the inscription 'Ecce agnus Dei qui tollit peccata Mundi' ('This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world'). The two pieces are presented in a well-preserved, but not original, antique storage case.This solid-silver chalice and paten set with a ruby and pearls will stand out during the celebration of Mass for its beauty and ancient age.
