Very rare chalice and cruet set with host box, made in France circa 1860. 100% silver. This gorgeous set comes in its original storing case and is accompanied by a silver platen. All the pieces are marked with the French silver hallmark and the silversmiths mark too. These marks testify for the ancient age, the origin and the quality of the set. This item includes a silver chalice with a stylized design, profusely decorated with beautiful hand-made embossed motifs. The motifs depict Christian symbols and attributes, typical of these pieces; in this particular chalice they show a huge quality The chalices foot is circular in shape and shows an old reparation, a quality work made by a professional goldsmith. This piece is adorned with medallions containing portraits of the members of the Sacred Family, and Eucharistic and Christian symbols: the Cross, the wheat stalks and the bunches of grapes. The stem is also an amazing example of artistic silverwork, with its fine main node (decorated with hand-engraved leaves) and two smaller secondary ones. Just over the stem we can see the sub-cup, a gorgeous piece with great lattice work and images of the Theological Virtues with their corresponding attributes: Faith, Hope and Charity. Inside the sub-cup, the stylized silver cup crowns the chalice. The cruets which come with the chalice are amazing pieces too, beautiful and delicately made. They are accompanied by an oval-shaped silver tray. The three pieces are decorated with subtle hand-engraved bunches of grapes, as well as embossed floral and vegetal motifs. The handles show small ancient reparations; just like the chalices one, they are precision works made by a professional. These pieces bear their corresponding hallmarks too. The set also includes a non-decorated silver paten and a gorgeous amber-colored host box, adorned with a silver shield. All the pieces can be stored and transported in their original case, solid and in fine condition.
