Gorgeous antique gilt-silver chalice with papal symbols, made in France in the 19th century and in really good condition. In this piece, the most eye-catching feature is surely its beautiful aesthetic: the gilt silver makes a perfect match with the blue enamel and the turquoise-colored stones. The foot is shaped as a six-petal flower; the front side is adorned with an enameled cross with different colors: ultramarine and red. The blue enamel shows a slight flaw, barely perceptible. At the rear side we can see a lovely silver applique depicting the papal symbols: a miter and two crossed keys, the attribute of Saint Peter (considered the first pope). The rest of the foot is decorated with embossed medieval-inspired flowers, each one with a central embedded stone. The stem has two disk-shaped nodes, a main one decorated with stones and a secondary one. The subcup shows the same decoration as the rest of the chalice, with identical stones, symmetrical band and wavy border. At the foot and the cup, we can see the French silver hallmark and the silversmiths mark with the inscription DEMARQUET FRERES (silversmith in Paris, rue des gravilliers, 1868-1890). The paten bears the same marks and is adorned with a hand-engraved band which frames a circular cross. This gorgeous antique gilt-silver chalice with papal symbols and 100%-silver paten is a real jewel, for its quality and undeniable beauty. Dimensions: Foots Width: 6.1 in / 15.5 cm.
