Antique solid-silver chalice with papal symbols and storing case, made in France in the 19th century and with silver paten. Both pieces remain in fine condition and bear the French silver hallmark and the silversmiths mark too. The chalice also bears the initials F. M. inside the foot, engraved by hand. This piece shows a timeless and very stylish design, with a discreet decoration where the most remarkable details are the appliqués at the foot. At the front we find an ultramarine enameled silver cross, while at the back there is a silver appliqué with the papal symbols: the miter and two crossed keys. The foot is lobed in shape and is adorned with a scroll band and checkered background. The stem has two disk-shaped nodes, a main one and a smaller secondary node. The subcup shows the same decoration as the base and has a wavy edge. Last but not least, the gilt-silver paten bears a hand-engraved motif depicting the Sacred Heart, the crown of thorns and the acronym of Christ, IHS, crowed by a cross. As well preserved as good-looking, this antique solid-silver chalice with papal symbols, storing case and paten will be the perfect gift for a priest with a taste for beautiful pieces.
