Antique gilded silver chalice with medallions, from France and made in the 19th century. It is a totally original period piece that stands out for its stylized design and the precious reliefs that decorate its different parts. It is accompanied by a paten, also made of silver; both bear the contrasts that identify antique French silver, as well as the goldsmith's stamp. The base of the chalice is circular and is decorated with three medallions with images in relief of Jesus, Mary and St. John the Family. Between the medallions we can see the classic symbols of the Eucharist, the ears of wheat and bunches of grapes. There is also a relief that represents a bush of reeds, symbol of the People of God. The main knot that adorns the stem of the chalice has a precious and elaborate engraved decoration. In it we distinguish two pairs of cherub heads between clouds, accompanied by the symbols that we also saw in the base. On the stem there are two secondary, smaller knots, located above and below the main one. The cup that tops the piece is supported by a magnificent engraved and carved lattice overcup. In it there are three medallions with symbolic images of the Theological Virtues: Faith, Hope and Charity. The medallions are accompanied by pairs of cherubs, bunches of grapes on the vine, ears of wheat and reeds. The paten accompanying the chalice is simple and elegant, decorated only with a hand-engraved drawing of the Lamb of God. The image is surrounded by the Latin inscription PANIS VIVUS AGNUS DEI (Living Bread Lamb of God). This antique gilt silver chalice with medallions and paten will be the perfect gift for a priest's ordination, or for a collector of religious goldsmithing. Measures: Chalice: Base width: 15,5 cm.
