Antique gilt-silver chalice and IHS paten made in France circa 1900, in good condition and of a stylized beauty. This liturgical silver set stands out for its fine design, which combines hand-engraved parts with more simple areas. This way, the artist accomplished a balanced effect which turns the chalice in a timeless and exclusive piece. The foot is ample and circular in shape: the edge is decorated with engraved reeds, symbol of the People of God. The rest of the foot has images of the Cross in the Calvary, vines with bunches of grapes, groups of reeds and wheat stalks (classic symbols of the Eucharist and the Passion of Christ). The stem is composed of two secondary nodes and a big main node between them, adorned with the same hand-engraved symbols. Over them, the silver cup stands on a simple and elegant openwork subcup adorned with stylized symmetrical vegetal motifs. This part can be unscrewed to remove it from the stem; if we do so, we will see the silversmiths mark. This mark is also present at the foots edge, together with the hallmark for antique French silver pieces. The paten which comes with the chalice is adorned with the hand-engraved acronym IHS, a crown of thorns and the Sacred Hearts. Near the edge we can see its corresponding hallmarks. For its outstanding presence and high quality, this antique gilt-silver chalice and IHS paten will be the best gift for a recently-ordained priest. Dimensions: Chalice: Foots Width: 5.51 in / 14 cm.
