Large antique silver ciborium with scenes, 16 in high, made in Begium between 1831 and 1868 and in amazing condition. This is quite an ancient piece, greatly preserved nevertheless. The ciborium is really big in size and shows a powerful presence, made of hand-engraved and embossed silver and with gilt-silver cup. The lid is attached to the cups edge with a system of flanges which prevent it to fall; it is surely an unusual and interesting feature. The circular foot is decorated with three scenes of the Life of Jesus: the moment when He washes the Apostles feet, one of the Three Falls when going to the Calvary and the moment when Jesuss Body is anointed before putting Him in the tomb. The stem is composed of a node adorned with stylized and symmetrical engraved leaves. The gilt-silver cup fits into a wonderful subcup with medallions containing busts of the Three Theological Virtues (Faith, Hope and Charity). The lid is shaped as an inverted cone, with a stylized and original design and a fine cross at the top. The ciborium bears three marks at the foot: the silversmiths marks and two profile-shaped marks. Both were used in Belgium between 1831 and 1868. This antique silver ciborium with scenes and 16 inches high will stand out in a collection of sacred art or during the celebration of Mass. Dimensions: Foots Width: 6.1 in / 15.5 cm.
