Antique ebony and silver crucifix made in Lier, Belgium in the 19th century, 21.85 inches high and in quite good condition. The crucifix is made of solid ebony wood, while the figure of Christ and the cherubs which decorate the arms, the bands and the foots applique are of pressed silver. At the foot, one of the sides of the decorative band is missing. These band frames a silver applique depicting the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God). The cherubs which trim the crosss arms have small reparations which cannot be appreciated unless we look at their back side. These reparations help to reinforce their integrity. The figure of Christ is balanced, with delicate and soft shapes and a remarkable attention to detail. Over it we can see a parchment-shaped plate with the inscription INRI. If we turn the crucifix, under the foot we will find an ancient sticker with the name of the original Belgium distributor located in Lier, J. Nauwelaerts. As fine-looking as stylish, this antique ebony and silver crucifix will stand out in a special place or on an elegant sideboard. Dimensions: Foot: Width: 7.28 in / 18.5 cm. Depth: 3.54 in / 9 cm.
