Superb gilt-silver chalice with enamels by Favier silversmith, made in France circa 1880 and with a spectacular design. The chalice comes with an amazing gilt-silver paten, engraved and quite solid. Both pieces are finely preserved; the chalices enamels are complete, except for a small flaw in one of the medals at the subcup. They all stand out for their great color and delicate making. The lobed base has six enamels, three of them with images of the Sacred Family and the other with fine decorative floral motifs. The foot, the stem and the node are covered with engraved and embossed motifs, related with the Eucharist and really decorative. The node is adorned with violet cabochons, probably amethysts or sapphires. The openwork subcup combies enameled medals with allegories of the Theological Virtues and stylized wheat stalks. The cup and the foot bear the French silver hallmark and the mark of the goldsmith Favier, clearly marked. The paten bears hallmarks too and is adorned with an engraved anchor and the word PAX. For its great beauty and ancient age, this amazing gilt-silver chalice with enamels by Faver goldsmith could be the best gift for the ordination of a priest.
