Beautiful antique gilt-silver chalice with enamels, made in France circa 1880, in excellent condition and of spectacular design. The chalice stands out for its combination of gilt silver, hand-engraved and embossed motifs and colorful decorative enamels. At the foot, divided in six sections, the enamels are scattered with carved stones of glass pieces of a beautiful green color. The enamels depict geometrical abstract designs which combine powerful colors: red, green, white, turquoise, blue, orange and gold. They are in perfect condition and make a perfect match with the delicate vegetal-inspired embossed motifs. The node repeats the foots decoration, with motifs simulating wheat stalks and similar enamels though smaller in size. The openwork subcup has three enamels with the symbols of the Theological Virtues: the cross of the Faith, the anchor of the Hope and the flaming heart of the Charity. Again, the enamels are combined with green stones, similar to those at the foot. The chalice has the French silver hallmark and the silversmiths mark at the cup and the foot. The paten which comes with it is made of gilt silver too, solid and with no decoration, and is marked with the silver proportion (800). This beautiful antique gilt-silver chalice with enamels is a singularly beautiful piece with a powerful spirituality. Dimensions: Chalice: Foots Width: 6.14 in / 15.6 cm.
